CBRC Examination Date Change
Due to room booking conflicts and invigilator availability, the date for the January 2012 CBRC examinations has been changed. Following consultation with the Security Representatives and Site Coordinators, the CBRC Board has changed the exam date to Wednesday January 4th, 2012. |
Canadian Thoracic Society Publishes Guidelines on Home Mechanical Ventilation
The Canadian Thoracic Society Home Mechanical Ventilation (HMV) Clinical Assembly is proud to announce the release of the first Canadian guideline on HMV. The guideline provides evidence-based recommendations on the assessment and management of individuals requiring non-invasive or invasive HMV. It addresses general topics such as ethics, airway clearance, and transition to home, and provides specific recommendations regarding HMV.

Canadian Thoracic Society Releases New Sleep Apnea Guidelines
The Canadian Thoracic Society released new guidelines on sleep disordered breathing, which provide the latest recommendations for sleep apnea diagnosis and treatment. The guidelines are created for health-care professionals by physicians who are experts in sleep disordered breathing. They are designed to keep health-care professionals up to date on the most recent evidence about how to diagnose and manage sleep apnea.

Continuing Competency Program Launched for Respiratory Therapists
The NBART is proud to announce the release of the newly developed Continuing Competency Program for Respiratory Therapists. This document outlines the requirements a Respiratory Therapist must meet to continue to practice in New Brunswick. These requirements include proof of active practice hours, participation in activities promoting professionalism and mandatory completion of the continuing competency program. The program will ensure that the NBART is complying with the Respiratory Therapy Act by making sure all Respiratory Therapists have the capacity, competence, capability and character to safely and ethically practice. Effective April 1, 2011, all members of the NBART requiring a license to practice must begin to collect the minimum number of continuing education points outlined in the Continuing Competency Program for submission during the 2012-2013 renewal period and annually thereafter.

Roflumilast (DaxasTM)
Roflumilast, a once daily oral tablet, is a novel treatment being developed specifically for treatment of COPD. If approved it will be a new approach to treat COPD and the underlying chronic inflammation with a fundamentally different mode of action.
